Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7: The Pinnacle of Foldable Innovation

Samsung has always been a company of contrasts—pushing boundaries in some areas while stubbornly resisting consumer-friendly trends in others. Its devices are often easy to recommend, but why does it feel like there’s always something holding them back?

This year, however, Samsung seems determined to silence its critics. The newly unveiled Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 represent the brand at its absolute best. Are they perfect? No. But they’re closer than ever—proof that Samsung isn’t just keeping up with the competition; it’s aiming to dominate.

Galaxy Z Fold 7: A Hardware Powerhouse

In a market flooded with impressive foldables from Honor, Oppo, and other Chinese brands, Samsung had grown complacent. But the Z Fold 7 changes that. It’s a massive leap forward, making last year’s model feel outdated.

Design: Thinner, Lighter, Tougher

Samsung has finally cracked the code on foldable ergonomics. The Z Fold 7 is the thinnest and lightest book-style foldable the company has ever made, measuring just 8.9mm when folded (down from 12.1mm) and an ultra-slim 4.2mm when open. At 215 grams, it’s even lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra—a jaw-dropping achievement.

The Armor Flex Hinge and Armor Aluminum frame contribute to a sleeker, more durable build. While it retains the same IP48 rating as its predecessor, you’ll still want to avoid sand and dust.

Displays: Bigger, Brighter, Better

Foldable screens are the heart of the experience, and Samsung has delivered:

  • Cover Display: Now 6.5 inches (up from 6.3), with a 21:9 aspect ratio—finally matching standard smartphones.
  • Main Display: Expands to 8 inches (11% larger), using 50% thicker ultra-thin glass for durability.
  • Both screens feature Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rates, and a blinding 2,600-nit peak brightness.

Performance & Battery: Flagship Power, Stagnant Charging

The Z Fold 7 packs the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, the fastest mobile chip available. Storage options go up to 16GB RAM and 1TB, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 for cutting-edge connectivity.

The 4,400mAh battery remains unchanged, as does the sluggish 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. If Samsung adopted silicon-carbon batteries and faster charging, this phone would be truly uncompromised.

Cameras: A Massive Upgrade

The 200MP main sensor (borrowed from the S25 Ultra) captures 44% brighter images than before. It’s joined by a 10MP 3x telephoto and an upgraded 12MP ultra-wide. Selfie cameras are now 10MP on both displays, and thankfully, Samsung has ditched the under-display experiment.

Galaxy Z Flip 7: Style Meets Substance

For those who prefer a more compact foldable, the Z Flip 7 is a revelation. Last year’s model couldn’t compete with the Motorola Razr, but this year? Samsung has outdone itself.

Design: Sleeker Than Ever

The edge-to-edge FlexWindow (the cover display) makes the Z Flip 7 the best-looking clamshell foldable on the market. At 13.7mm folded (1.2mm thinner) and 6.5mm unfolded, it’s impressively slim. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and IP48 rating ensure durability.

Displays: A Giant Leap for Flex Phones

  • FlexWindow: Now 4.1 inches (the largest on any flip phone), with 68% thinner bezels.
  • Inner Display: A 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with 120Hz and 2,600 nits.

Performance & Battery: Good, Not Great

The Exynos 2500 (a 3nm chip) powers the device—not as fast as Qualcomm’s best, but sufficient for most users. Storage tops out at 12GB RAM and 512GB.

The 4,300mAh battery (up 300mAh) promises 31 hours of video playback, but charging remains stuck at 25W wired / 15W wireless.

Cameras: Solid, Not Spectacular

  • 50MP main + 12MP ultra-wide (both with OIS).
  • 10MP selfie camera (same as the Fold 7).
  • Flex Mode turns the phone into a built-in tripod.

Budget Option: Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE

For those who want a flip phone without the premium price, the Z Flip 7 FE offers:

  • One UI 8 (Android 16)
  • Exynos 2400
  • 8GB RAM, 128/256GB storage
  • Bluetooth 5.4
  • Only in Black or White

Software & Availability

Both devices launch with One UI 8 (Android 16), promising 7 years of updates. Galaxy AI and Google Gemini integration (with camera/screen sharing) enhance productivity.
