Recent reports suggest a deal is in the works, with a consortium of investors—including tech giant Oracle—poised to take over. Oracle, which already handles cloud infrastructure for the U.S. government, could provide the regulatory comfort needed to finalize the agreement.

Losing TikTok in the U.S. would be a massive blow to ByteDance, but the proposed deal offers a compromise. Under the current terms, ByteDance would retain a minority stake in TikTok’s U.S. operations, allowing it to benefit financially even after the sale.

This arrangement could be the best-case scenario for ByteDance, balancing U.S. national security concerns with the company’s economic interests. With the current grace period ending soon, a resolution may finally be within reach.

A Split in the App? TikTok U.S. vs. TikTok Global

If the sale goes through, TikTok’s U.S. operations would effectively become a separate entity. Reports indicate that a new version of the app, codenamed “M2,” is already in development and could launch as early as September. The existing TikTok app would remain functional until March 2025, ensuring a smooth transition for users.

While the deal still needs approval from Chinese regulators, the pieces seem to be falling into place. After years of uncertainty, TikTok’s U.S. future may soon be settled—but until the ink dries, nothing is certain.
