Is Samsung Really Dropping the Galaxy S26+? Here’s What We Know

For years, Samsung’s Galaxy S series has followed a three-device lineup: the standard model, a Plus variant, and the Ultra. This structure made sense, offering options for different budgets and needs. But new leaks suggest a big change may be coming—the Galaxy S26+ might not exist at all.

The Missing Model Number: A Strong Hint

Smartphones don’t just have marketing names like “Galaxy S25” or “S25 Ultra”—they also carry internal model numbers. For example:

Galaxy S25 LineupGalaxy S26 Lineup (Rumored)
S25 (SM-S931)S26 (SM-S942)
S25+ (SM-S936)No S26+ model spotted
S25 Edge (SM-S937)S26 Edge (SM-S947)
S25 Ultra (SM-S938)S26 Ultra (SM-S948)

The absence of an S26+ model number in recent leaks (via SammyPolice) suggests Samsung could be axing the Plus model. Why? Two possible reasons:

  1. Weak Sales – If the S25+ underperforms compared to the standard and Ultra models, Samsung may streamline its lineup.
  2. The Edge as a Replacement – The rumored S26 Edge (via TalkAndroid) could take the Plus’s place, offering a similar size with a sleeker design.

A Big Upgrade for the Base Galaxy S26?

Sharp-eyed fans may have noticed something unusual—the S26’s model number jumps by 11 (from SM-S931 to SM-S942) instead of the usual 10. In Samsung’s numbering system, that last digit often hints at hardware improvements. This could mean the standard S26 (rumored camera upgrade) might get a bigger spec bump than usual.

Galaxy S26 Ultra Camera: A Major Sensor Upgrade

Another leak (from Weibo) suggests the S26 Ultra’s 200MP main camera could get a larger sensor—moving from Samsung’s 1/1.3″ HP2 to a 1/1.1″ Sony sensor. Since Sony doesn’t currently offer a 200MP sensor, this would be a major development, likely announced later this year. A bigger sensor means better low-light performance, which could make the S26 Ultra (possibly with an under-display camera) even more competitive against rivals.
